Skills and Professional Opportunities for Knowledge and Employment Success

The SPOKES program at Randolph Technical Center is a collaborative initiative led by the West Virginia Department of Education Office of Adult Education and Workforce Development in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) and Workforce Development Boards (WDBs). This innovative program is designed to support DHHR and WV WORKS clients as they prepare for long-term success in the workplace.

A Comprehensive Work-Based Learning Experience

SPOKES provides a holistic, ten-week course focused on helping participants build both academic and professional competencies that are essential for today’s job market. The curriculum combines:

  • Workplace-focused academic instruction (math, reading, and writing)

  • Job readiness training and assessments

  • Customer service vocational training

  • Computer and digital literacy

  • WorkKeys academic preparation

  • Soft skills development, including communication, teamwork, time management, and professionalism

  • Career development planning with a dedicated Career Development Consultant

  • Intensive job search strategies and resume support

Flexible Start and Supportive Environment

SPOKES offers rolling admission, meaning new participants can begin the program any Monday. This flexibility ensures that clients can access services when they are ready to begin their employment journey.

Each day includes a structured, full-time schedule that prepares participants for the expectations of real-world employment through hands-on learning, reflection, and personalized career guidance.

  • Build confidence in workplace technology and communication

  • Prepare participants to enter or reenter the workforce with practical skills and strategies

  • Foster independence, self-sufficiency, and long-term career growth
